Annual awards * Christmas dinner * Exciting Alpine Rally news * Huge Hamper giveaway

The HRA year finishes with a bang! We’ve arranged a 2 course Christmas meal for $40, we will give away the usual 30 or so hampers and gifts as lucky door prizes, we’ll hand out some of our annual awards as well as the Dandenong Tour trophies and wait for it… Some exciting news on the 2025 Alpine Rally of East Gippsland.

Dinner is available from 6.00 pm at $40 for a 2 course meal. If you have special dietary requirements, please call Rob on 0414 560 688 before Thursday. As usual, drinks are available over the bar.

Christmas give-away: As has been the practice for about 15 years now, each person attending will receive 1 ticket into the draw for our massive hamper and gifts prize giving, at no charge. Just turn up and you are in the draw!

The usual raffle will still be going on, for a chance to win a Series 2 HRA Full size Gnome or it’s pocket sized (yet still made of concrete and paint) companion mini Gnome. Please feel welcome to bring along a suitable prize for the raffle of you can; not everyone wants a Gnome (who said that?). Tickets are 3 for $5.

Our Annual awards for: Most Improved Driver, Most Improved Navigator, The Hilary Garth Official of the Year and the HRA Clubman award will be handed out. It could be you (unless you stayed indoors all year)!

The trophies for the fabulous October Dandenongs tour will be handed over.

Alpine Rally: The results of the Alpine Rally Survey will be released and there is exciting news about the 2025 event to be announced.

Don’t forget we are still at the “new” venue in Oakleigh: The Oakleigh-Carnegie RSL, 95-97 Drummond Street Oakleigh (Melway map 69, ref F7), meeting commencing at 7:30 pm. Christmas meal available from 6:00 pm.

Special guest speaker Loretta Smith, author of ‘A Spanner in the works’

Don’t miss this week’s HRA meeting. Amongst other things we have Melbourne author Loretta Smith talking about her book ‘A spanner in the works’ which brings to life the amazing story of Alice Anderson and Australia’s only ‘all-girl’ garage. As Melbourne’s best known woman in the 1920’s, Alice did so many amazing, pioneering things that we will hear about at the meeting.

The book has also been made into a play, ‘Garage Girls’ which has just finished a sell out season at La Mama theatre in Carlton.

Come dressed to suit the theme… white shirt, black tie and khaki pants! Bring the family!

HRA June Meeting – Wednesday June 8, 8:00 pm
Come for a meal and stay for the meeting, “For Tonight We Ride…”

Come along this Wednesday and catch up with other HRA rally tragics and maybe have a laugh.

We are fortunate to have Bruce Keys as our guest speaker. He will be giving us a behind the scenes look at the making of the book on Geoff Portman, “For Tonight We Ride” and possibly relating a few stories that just could not be put down in writing! It’s a terrific read and Bruce is excited to share the experience with us in the HRA.

PCR test for December HRA Meeting attendees

All those present at the December HRA meeting are advised to have a PCR test for COVID19. Isolate from now, until you gain a negative test result.

Many attendees have already received an SMS from the Victorian Department of Health requiring them to “get tested within 24 hours and isolate until you receive a negative result.”

But we know of some that were at the meeting that have not received such an SMS. Hence this notice.

  • There may be a RallySprint or Speed event in the back half of January, if it can be organised.
  • The first Club Meeting for 2022 is scheduled for Wednesday 9 February. That should be a regular meeting by then, but watch club comms channels for more information.
  • The Cobb and Co Explorer Rally will be held in the Darling Downs region of Queensland on 12 & 13 February.
  • The George Woods Rally is planned for Saturday 26 February

Zoom again for October meeting… Wednesday October 13, 8:00 pm AEDT

Spurred on by this ‘Guest Speaker experience’, we have again organized something very special.
