Update from the Director

During my first survey of the original ’81 GDMT route some 12 months ago, I was the only Friday night guest at the grand and rustic Victoria Hotel in Ouyen, occupying one of the 50 rooms.

At the time I booked the dining room and made the hotel aware that that they would have lots of guests in October this year. Continue reading Ouyen is ready for the Tour of the 81 Derrick…

Resto Country Spares Rally rescheduled

From the Daryl Tunbridge/Rally4Steve Clerk of Course:

Due to 70+mm rain on recently graded tracks, the Ballarat Light Car Club, the Victorian Rally Panel and DELWP have deemed it wise to reschedule to Spring. The rescheduled event will be held on 5th October 2019

As at July 17, we had received 32 entries (22 Tunbridge and 10 #Rallying4Steve) and registrations from 52 officials. Most/all of them would love others to join them for a warm night out on smooth roads.

Full refunds for those unable to make the rescheduled event are available via Michele Bayley (entries@blcc.net.au). We ask all entrants to keep your entry form in case it needs to be modified for the new date.

Victoria’s toughest rally gets a second chance this October

The 404 of Richard Davies, Richard Williamson, Mark Huntley

Tour of 1981 George Derrick Memorial Trial. 26 & 27 October 2019

This behemoth of a rally in 1981 that included impassable terrain and a competitor ‘mutiny’ will be re-traced this October, minus both those elements. The event was in the famous Sunset Country and the Western Victorian deserts.

The Victorian deserts are remarkable and much underrated. The scenery is outstanding the roads are great. Over the 800 km only 5 cautions have had to be been route charted. It will also offer the opportunity to test the memories and recollections of those involved in 1981.

Geoff Byron has put together this incredible 800 km tour of what was just his second ever rally. Continue reading Victoria’s toughest rally gets a second chance this October

Shifting Gear at the HRA June club meeting

The June HRA meeting will once again feature an interesting and rarely heard guest speaker…  Automotive Historian, Professor Harriet Edquist, will bring us Shifting Gear: stories of priceless vehicles in country sheds, passionate collectors and a whole roomful of sports cars.

But before we get to that, we will present awards for the Victoria Cross Rally from April.  We’ll find out about HRA success at the sensational SA Rally of the Heartland and hear about the July Grampians “rally style” tour.

Tickets in the raffle are 3 for $5 with all money raised this month donated to Neuroblastoma Australia. Next Wednesday June 12, at 8:00 pm, meals available from 6:30 pm, at the East Malvern RSL. Continue reading Shifting Gear at the HRA June club meeting
