HRA Committee News – July 2024

Updates from the HRA Committee’s July meeting.

President’s Report

  • We are still chasing a meeting with the Victorian Environment Minister Steve Dimopolous re: the Great National Park proposal. It’s proving hard to pin down.
  • Owen has sent a letter of support to Ballarat Council on behalf of Ballarat LCC in support of that club receiving help from the council to relocate after being evicted from their Autocross facility.
  • Owen also sent a letter to WDCC in support of their property purchase as a replacement motorsport venue for the Avalon complex.
  • The committee reviewed and approved a ne Code of Conduct which is now available on the club website.

Membership

The proposal to implement a new membership management system is now full steam ahead after the committee signed it off. Steve Hollowood is leading the project and we hope to see some tangible progress a little later this year with a new website and then the rollout to members of the new online membership platform.

Magazine

Our magazine editor, Jeff Cameron is always looking for more content to fill the magazine with and is asking for your contributions.

As part of the new membership management system rollout there is an option to create a digital magazine and this is an option which the committee will look at over the coming months.

Competition

Our congratulations and best wishes go to Joel Wald and Cathy Elliott on their success to date in the VCRS. They lead the championship by just 2 points from Brian Semmens and Dan Parry. Let’s hope they can keep it going for the remaining two events.

Congratulations also to Mitch Garrad and Taylah Murphy on their round wind in the Junior Cup component of the Australian Rally Championship. They also lead that series currently.

The Victorian Rally Panel opened applications for events for the 2025 calendar. If you want to lodge an application you will need to do it quickly and you will need to let Matt DeVaus know as well so we can ensure it is included in the club calendar. If you have already lodged an application with the panel and not informed Matt, can you please do that ASAP.

The committee is working strategies to find and train new event directors so if you have ever though about running a rally then let Owen know so he can talk you through how we can support you in getting there.

There are still quite a few competitor who have not yet registered for the club championship. If you haven’t yet registered then we have extended the deadline until August 31. Go to the website and fill out the form to register now.

The club constitution, statement of purposes and rules and by-laws.

The committee is updating this document as it hasn’t been done since 2008 and there are a number of areas that are out of date and requiring change. This project is huge and complex and is being led by our Treasurer Kerril. We expect to have a draft of the document available for members to see later in the year and then have it voted on and accepted at the AGM in February. So keep an eye out for that.
