The Dust Never Settles… the 2023 Bagshot Rallysprint

The Clerk of Course looks back at the 2023 Bagshot Rallysprint, 28 October, 2023.

I am not sure if the dust ever settles at the Bendigo Car Club’s Bagshot Motorsport Complex.

We had an awesome day of activities with 44 entrants and 42 starters. The field of competitors was a great blend of youth and some more experienced travellers, with an eclectic range of vehicles.

It was a day to remember for both participants, spectators and officials.

A diverse field…

The vehicle ensemble was a unique spread of vehicles from Standard Car Class competitors, including a Ford Falcon that was scheduled for Uber duties later that night, to classic vehicles to a more modern G4 entrant. The genuine works entry of Jeff Cameron’s Datsun 160J was a delight to see.

Unsung heroes

Events like the Bagshot Rallysprint wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated volunteers who make it all happen. Over 25 volunteers came together to ensure the smooth execution of the event. Their hard work behind the scenes often goes unnoticed, but it’s their efforts that allow us to enjoy our motorsport activities.

A vibrant motorsport community

With more than 200 motorsport supporters, spectators, competitors, and officials in attendance, the Bagshot Rallysprint clearly has a strong and vibrant community. It’s heartening to see so many people come together to celebrate their passion for motorsport. The atmosphere and camaraderie among attendees add to the event’s charm, making it a day that everyone looks forward to each year.

The winners

In terms of results, local Ford driver Tony Moore emerged to take 2023 Bagshot Rallysprint outright honours.

However, the enjoyment award of the day could easily go to James McKenzie for showing his father, David, how to compete in Dad’s car. Charlie Corbett also deserves a mention for navigating his father around in their Peugeot, even when Dad didn’t always point him in the right direction.

These heartwarming and amusing moments on the track are what make the Bagshot Rallysprint special.

It was also extremely pleasing to see the No Hear No Fear Team of Myer/Storer complete the course in great fashion.

Looking Ahead: A Day-Night Event?

As the 2023 Bagshot Rallysprint drew to a close, we wondered whether it’s time to consider running Bagshot as a day-night event?

It’s a tantalizing idea that could add a new dimension to this already successful day. To find out if this will become a reality, we’ll have to wait for the 2024 Supp Regs to see what the future holds.

Thanks to all who were part of the 2023 Bagshot Rallysprint.
